Academic Programs
Bridging the worlds of academia and the passions of philanthropy, the Sillerman Center staff are teaching their first practicum where Heller students develop a strategic approach to solving problems by awarding actual grants to non-profit agencies in the Boston area. In addition, the Center is researching curriculum across the broad spectrum of Universities that teach about philanthropy and convening Heller School faculty to explore models for the development of philanthropy focused on future courses.
EXECUTIVE EDUCATION
The staff of the Sillerman Center is currently reviewing the existing market for executive education and examining the needs of foundation members, staff and other interested parties. We are developing standard format seminars and workshops on topics such as policy and philanthropy or program evaluation and the nature of evidence. In being responsive to the needs of the field, the Center anticipates providing more tailored programming, either topically or skill based,as the needs arise.
SILLERMAN FELLOWSHIPS
The Sillerman Center awards fellowships to advanced Doctoral (Ph.D.) students, and Master's in Public Policy (M.P.P.) students. Selection criteria include the student's interests and career aspirations relative to philanthropy. The recipients for fellowships are chosen by a committee of faculty and staff members.
- The Sillerman Center focuses on preparing first and second year doctoral students to consider 3rd year appointments as Sillerman Fellows. Students connect philanthropic themes to their ongoing interests and produce dissertations that add critical knowledge to the philanthropic field.
- Sillerman internship grants are available to MPP students between their first and second year to encourage experiential learning in philanthropic settings.
